(not sure of the name of this piece, possibly by Stefan Koidl?)

There isn't enough to go around. A land of abundance, Altera, has become a place of great scarcity.

What this means for you:

  • What equipment your character has access to is limited.
  • If it suits you, feel free to play your character as being deprived of basic resources like food and clean water.
  • If it suits you, incorporate a great deal of scavenging and desperate circumstances into your roleplay.
  • Paper is rare. Think of it as a show of wealth in character when you decide to write something on paper, and instead using the spoken word, clay tablets, or wooden postcards.

What can my character have?
Except for what belongings your character had grandfathered in...

  • Fabrics that have been stitched up, mended, and restored far beyond their original state.
  • Scavenged tools and weapons, i.e. rusted iron and the occasional thing made out of copper or bronze since those essentially last forever.
  • Anything scavenged from natural materials, like wood or leather or the like.

How can I get more than that? The most straightforward method is via an event, i.e. if you loot a single steel sword, you now have a single steel sword. If you want more than one off gear, you'll have to acquire it through a community's institutions.

Generally speaking, there have to be three things present: an institution extracting the resource > an institution refining the resource > and an institution making something out of the resource. Whoever controls that last step of production can have, and give away, essentially as much of equipment from it as they want (within reason, you can't like, supply several NPC armies worth of equipment).

Can I say that my character had an armory of grandfathered equipment they brought with them from the Eastern Kingdoms? For the most part, no. If it's more than what they could carry or wear on their person, it's too much. If you're not sure, reach out!
