Much has been forgotten in the world. Can a secret still be considered such, if no one remembers it? Or is the nature of a secret that some know it, while others do not?

In any event, something that once could have been considered a secret - the alchemical formulae for gunpowder - has been forgotten. Scrubbed from memory and existence. Alchemists who once knew how to make it no longer do. Their notes and records that detailed its creation have been tampered with, the pertinent information scratched out. They knew they once knew something, but understand it no longer. Attempts to recreate it confound the minds of inventors, slipping away like fine sand.

Any premade gunpowder in the world is the last gunpowder it will ever have for the foreseeable future.
