Goodwill - Earning Points

Currently, there are three methods in which a character can earn GW points. Through events, exceptional roleplay, and getting defeated in combat. Make a note that GW is tracked per character, not per player! You cannot use Goodwill earned on one character to the benefit of an alt.

You earn GW for each of the examples below. If several examples happen in one single moment or RP, you get all the GW associated with each of the examples. Everything listed below will only apply if you spend time on their effects in roleplay (and not just restore items / heal / revive in between roleplay sessions).

If you’re a returning player with an existing character, you probably won’t have to start at 0 GW when you first join the server! We want you to be able to pick up where you left off. Mechanically, they keep the stuff they had at the time you last played them on Hollowworld and start at zero from there.

EVENTS

  • You attend an event, hosted by a DM (1)
  • You host your own event (1 per 2 attendees)

ROLEPLAY

  • A DM gives you extra GW for quality narrative building (x determined by DM)
  • You accept defeat in a conflict with meaningful stakes (1)
  • You are captured or imprisoned at the end of a RP (2)
  • Your character dies and will be revived (4)
If you choose not to revive or die of old age, you may spend half the GW they accrued over their lifetime to invest into a new character.

  • You lose something (broken or stolen) and did not get it back in the same RP (1)
If the item is lost forever, refund all GW that had been invested into the item.
You lose 1 unit of Wealth with no means of getting it back (9)

  • Your plot to undermine another is discovered and used against you (2)

  • Your role within a community is usurped by another player (4)

  • A harmful secret about your character is discovered and used against them (2)

  • You’re put on trial (3)

  • You put someone else on trial and lose (1)

  • You’re sentenced to something that spans a few RPs (3)

  • You’re sentenced to something that will be incredibly difficult to overcome (6)

  • You’re sentenced to something that is permanently life changing (9)

  • You fail to prevent a prisoner’s escape (1)

  • You’re forced into another’s employ against your will (2)

  • Use an alt to meaningfully contribute to the cause your main is an enemy of (2)

COMBAT

If you are injured, cursed, or possessed in a way that does not substantially affect your RP, you do not gain any Goodwill

  • You are negatively affected by the outcome of your roleplay for the span of a few RPs (3)
  • You are negatively affected by the outcome of your roleplay in a way that will be an incredible ordeal to overcome (6)
  • You are permanently negatively affected by the outcome of your roleplay, and it is impossible to return to your full faculties (9)

MASS COMBAT

When something bad happens to one member of a group, the whole group gains Goodwill if they also conceded defeat as a group. Here’s an example: Two groups of five players are duking it out. On both sides, one player’s character literally lost an arm. All five players of the side that chose to retreat from the battle and concede defeat gain 4 GW. For the side that won, only the player whose character lost an arm gains 3 GW.
