The hells were not the only extraplanar realm torn asunder by Grief.

The river has become a sea; a vast lake with banks on all sides, souls no longer undergoing a three hundred year cycle of cleansing and rebirth but remaining within the sea for… well, no one knows quite yet.

Those with the power to fix this problem are unavailable for reasons unique unto themselves. For now, the waters fill with souls and the banks retreat as the tide ebbs. But it holds. The temporary solution is, for now, without consequences.

A consequence of the Sea of Souls is that it has changed how the dead are brought back to life.

What is the process for when a character dies?

Assuming you don't want them to just stay dead and do want to revive them, the process goes like this:

1. Think about who or what might have a stake in reviving your character. A divine entity, their wizard friends, something like that. In the case of other player characters, make sure to reach out to them first and check that they do actually want to revive your blorbo.

2. Reach out to a DM to express that you would like to revive your character, and anyone you think might have a stake in it. If you don't think anyone would have a stake in your character's life, that's fine! The DM can help you come up with something.

3. This is where things kind of diverge. Things might progress by...

- The DM hosting an event for you and any other players involved.

- The DM writing you some microfiction describing your character's revival process and the consequences of it.

- You writing out some microfiction at the DM's direction describing the revival process and the consequences of it.

4. Go back to playing your character normally! Well, somewhat normally. Death is traumatic, and your character will emerge from this process changed. Perhaps with a demonic pact, some magical abnormality, or other effect that is worked out between you and the DM.
