THE KEEPERS OF THE SEALS
The Grey Lady & Korog
God and Goddess of Artifice, Legacy, Mead, Death, Afterlife, Winter, and Seals
So much has been lost.
There is still so much more to lose.
Nothing can stop what is to come.
What is left is worth preserving.
Recent Events
Confrontation With the Daughter of Grief. The Grey Lady and Korog fought on seperate fronts during the battle, but they did both fight. The Grey Lady fought on her own battlefield, invisible to most Alterans. She fought within the Planar Infinity, holding back unspeakable things from piercing the veil. Korog blessed the arms and armor of the Pantheon’s armies, and led the dying race of dwarves into battle personally.
Korog had to leave his people to bring aid to The Grey Lady. The Daughter of Grief and its corrupted wielder had been subdued, but could not be destroyed. So they bound it, trapped within the planar, sealed behind a thousand locks with no key. Only, the Daughter of Grief keeps destroying the seals so new ones must be made.
Forming the Sea of Souls. The cycle of reincarnation has been completely halted. The Grey Lady’s legions of psychopomps and guardians of the afterlife now protect a static pool, not allowing the dead to pass on for reasons unknown.
Tenets
- Consecrate the dead, so that their souls pass unto me in death.
- Do not raise the dead. Leave those that are already in my care with me.
- The End is nigh. Gather allies for the final battle, and grant final death to those who oppose me.
- Arcane magic is anathema. Demons are anathema. Suffer neither to live.
- Oppose the new gods.
Agenda
The Keepers of the Seals want their followers to…
Restore the Pantheon’s legitimacy by force. Executing Skraag blessed, mages, and demons qualifies. Those who manage to convince Skraag blessed or mages to abandon their ways and worship The Keepers of the Seals instead will be most handsomely rewarded.
Destroy powerful sources of arcane or the Wight’s magic. Destroying an institution that is blessed by Skraag qualifies, or institutions powered by arcane magic qualifies.
Build monuments in the Pantheon’s honor. Every time an institution related to their worship is advanced, one of the faithful involved who invested Goodwill or Wealth into the institution qualifies.
Blessings
Those who are blessed by the Keepers of the Seals do not have any appearance changes.
All blessed have the following ability:
Do Not Raise the Dead. If they die, their gods want them to stay dead. If they choose to revive, they lose all character blessings (including blessings to their artifacts, but not any institutions they contributed to).
The Time For Patience Is Over. The blessed cannot take a light stance toward mages, the demonic, or servants of Skraag. They must oppose these characters and their ambitions, or else risk losing their blessings.
Preserver of the Veil. They are immune to arcane and demonic magic. They cannot be targeted by direct spells, and effects from these magics dissipate harmlessly a few inches from their skin. This does not, however, protect them from indirect effects caused by magic. I.e., an arcane spark that causes a mundane fire, or any mundane element of an attack like the arrow part of an enchanted arrow.
Initiates choose one of the following blessings:
Shield. The blessed gives up their own protection from Preserver of the Veil and lends it to another for the span of one attack, up to a few moments.
Break. In tandem with an attack, the blessed may sever one ongoing arcane or demonic effect for as long as they are in the blessed’s presence. For example, one effect caused by an artifact, or a single ongoing spell. The moment the blessed leaves, it begins functioning again. So if the blessed leaves and returns to the broken entity, they will have to reapply this ability.
