The Fih - Commonly known as drowners

cool fish | Sea monsters, Lovecraftian horror, Lake monsters

Forever in pursuit of the macabre and bizarre, I travelled far and wide.
I've discovered scattered fragments from the corners of this world.
Now I know that they all seem to be linked together, for they mention the same beast.
When combined, they revealed everything to me about the creatures' abilities and flaws...

A fragment from a villager’s journal:

Since the incident with the creatures three days ago, nobody wants to work with the nets anymore. They will not enter the shallows, nor even come near the water’s edge. I will not deny that there are beasts in the water, but to call them ‘drowners’ is a bit far-fetched. It implies they’re out to kill us, specifically. I honestly can’t believe they actually ‘target’ us. The scenario that’s much more likely is that the creatures are some kind of animals, maybe some rabid seals come down from the North? They surely can not be sharks, cause I’ve seen them come on land in the distance…

A fragment from a fisherman’s journal:

Well, the competition fisherman’s out of business! Larry went out into the water with his boat and a creature crawled into the boat as he hauled up his net. It’s hard to believe, but the wound he received from the ensuing fight persuaded me to believe his story. They were both human and fish, he said... strong like men, but small like kids. He says he won’t be going out onto the water until the problem is dealt with. Good for me!

A fragment from a healer’s journal:

I can’t believe this. The folks that went out onto the open water to fight the creatures were completely outmatched, even though they brought weaponry! The drowners look so clumsy and slow when they come on shore during the night, but the fisherman told me he saw how the boat got overtaken, those weapons were no use! And now the people who went to hunt the creatures are all dead. Drowned! There weren’t even any wounded to tend to!

A fragment from a guardsman’s journal:

We paid a guy a decent sum in advance and agreed that the rest of the payment would arrive once the job was done. He said he hadn’t fought the creatures before, but had heard about a certain type of weapon that would harm them particularly well. I wish he told us what kind of weaponry he was alluding to, because he proceeded to walk to the shoreline and that was the last we saw of him. It’s been several days now. I ain’t going near that shore ever again. I say the sea has won this battle and to be honest; I don’t even want to know what those beasts are!

A fragment from a beast slayer’s journal:
So, I’ve packed my obsidian spear and of course my daggers. I’ve fought mighty water creatures like this before and I found it a lot harder to get through their scaly skin with ordinary weaponry. Not impossible, but not satisfactory either. The other thing I am sure I am going to need are earplugs. If they are in fact humanoid, which the townsfolk appear to believe, they’re likely to possess some kind of vocal chords. More often than not, those are put to use in the form of dizzying screeching. I need to be prepared for that.

I figured I submit a lore submission about the creatures we dealt with today at the event in Gillsmouth.

It's a bit unconventional, but all the information is in there; their size, general strength, where to find them, what they excel in, what their weaknesses are, and how best to go about defeating them. Along with the picture, it should give a good idea of what they're like
